A Zanzibar honeymoon: bush first, then beach.
Safari first, island second. Do it the other way round and you'll be starting your honeymoon with a five o'clock alarm!
The combination works because the two halves are so different. Six or seven nights on the mainland is enough to stop it feeling like a schedule, and four or five on the island is enough to stop moving altogether.
A few things worth getting right
- The order. Safari means early mornings. Get them done first.
- The transfer. Fly. A road transfer to the coast plus a ferry is a long day at exactly the wrong point in a honeymoon.
- The coast. If you want to swim at any hour you like, go north. Have a look at the beaches.
- Telling us. Mention that it's your honeymoon! Camps and hotels often do something special, but they can't if nobody tells them.
