Most short safaris are all animals. This one starts with people. You'll spend a morning at Lake Eyasi with the Hadzabe, who still hunt with bows, and then meet Datoga neighbours who work metal — arrowheads among other things.
After that it's the Ngorongoro Crater for a full day on the floor, and Tarangire on the way home for the elephants and the baobabs. Three days, three completely different things.
Is this trip for you?
Travellers who want more than a game drive, and anyone curious about how people actually live alongside this wildlife. It works at a gentle pace, so it suits a first trip.
This is a starting point, not a fixed departure. You can change the route, the pace, the camps and the length, and most people do.

Your 3 days, one at a time
Out of Arusha after breakfast and down to Lake Eyasi, about four hours. You'll join the Hadzabe, one of the last communities in East Africa still hunting with bows and arrows, and if you're up early enough you can go out with them.
Afterwards you'll meet the Datoga, who are known for their blacksmithing and who make the arrowheads. Picnic lunch, a quiet afternoon, then dinner at the lodge.

Early breakfast, then down onto the crater floor for the day. It's one of the few places in Africa where lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard all live in the same small bowl, although rhino are scarce and usually a long way off.
Picnic lunch inside the crater, then up and out to Karatu in the evening for a second night at the same lodge.
An early breakfast and on to Tarangire for a morning game drive: big elephant herds, baobabs, and the tree-climbing lions the park is quietly known for.
Picnic lunch in the park, an afternoon drive, then back towards Arusha and the airport.
So, what does it cost? We price every safari individually, because it really
depends on when you travel, which camps you pick and how many of you there
are. The same route in February and in August won't cost the same.
Tell us your dates and roughly what you have in mind, and we'll send you a
full, itemised quote. Not a vague range, a real quote.
Per person, based on two of you travelling together. The per-person price comes down in a bigger group, and we confirm your exact figure in writing when we quote. Rates as published for 15 January 2026 to 31 December 2027.
