Ruaha — small riverside camps

In Ruaha

Good to know: this page describes a type of place, not one property. The camp we actually book depends on your dates, your budget and what's free when we quote, so the useful part here is the decision. Your shortlist of named camps comes with your itinerary.

The area

Ruaha's camps are small, remote, and you get there by light aircraft. In the dry season, the animals gather along the river, and the lion prides here are unusually big.

The decision

Ruaha is what people mean when they say they want somewhere with nobody else around. The camps are small, you fly in, and you can go most of a day without seeing another vehicle. The lion densities are among the highest in Africa, and almost nobody is there to watch them.

The trade-off: it's a commitment. You fly in, it costs more per night than the north, and it doesn't fit easily into a short trip. We wouldn't suggest it for anyone's first four days in Tanzania.
